Theater technicians needed for ‘The Laramie Project’

Staff reports

Technical positions are needed for the Lake Tahoe Community College winter production of “The Laramie Project,” a docu-drama about the 1998 hate-crime murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay University of Wyoming student who was brutally beaten by two young men, tied to a fence and left to die.

Positions needed for the play include light and sound board operators, backstage crew and construction crew.

Auditions were held Jan. 5 for the play, created by writer-director Moises Kaufman and actors of New York’s Tectonic Theatre Project, who journeyed to Laramie to interview townspeople about the murder. After 400 hours of interviews, what emerges is a powerful theater piece focusing on the citizens of Laramie, how they were affected and ultimately changed by the tragedy.

This play contains mature themes and content and may not be suitable for children under 15.

Rehearsals will be held Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 10 p.m. until tech week, when rehearsals will increase.

Performances will be held March 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m., and March 14 and 21 at 2 p.m.
