This week’s action: Taste the Sierra harvest this week at Tahoe’s South Shore (opinion)

Sierra Nevada’s field-to-fork movement seems to be growing — and that’s OK with me. I love to sample locally sourced food items, plus craft brews and wines; it paints a picture of the region through taste (my favorite sense).

Sample the Sierra returns to South Lake Tahoe for its seventh year this Saturday, Sept. 17, from noon to 5 p.m.

Here are three more fun picks for the week:

1. RESTAURANT WEEK

Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority’s fourth annual Tahoe South Restaurant Week runs Friday, Sept. 16, through Friday, Sept. 23.

Support the local culinary scene by dining out — with new friends and old, family, your co-workers … the list goes on. More than 30 restaurants are participating.

2. CAR SHOW

Heavenly Village is set to host the 31st annual Cool September Days Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show Friday through Sunday, Sept. 16-18.

The judged competition is planned for Saturday.

3. COCKTAIL CONTEST

Another tasting event is set for Wednesday, Sept. 21 — the 7th annual Cocktails for a Cause, which is a benefit for Barton Health’s Cancer Wellness Program.

Nine mixologists from across the South Shore will vie for “Best Cocktail” and “Most Congenial Bartender” awards — and, of course, bragging rights until next year.

Pick up Lake Tahoe Action on Fridays for a full roundup of things to do.
