MEYERS, Calif. – A three-car accident near Lira’s Market in Meyers sent three people to area hospitals Saturday morning.

Kevin Smith, 42 of South Lake Tahoe, was driving a 2003 Audi on the west-bound lane of Highway 50 when the vehicle began to veer into the east-bound lane. The Audi collided with the left side of a 1997 Toyota 4Runner, driven by Lisa Levy, 43 of Sacramento. The Audi then spun around and collided with the front end of the third vehicle, a 2005 Dodge van driven by Andrew Cross, 55 of Sacramento.

Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the incident, said California Highway Patrol Spokesman Jeff Gartner.

Levy was flown to Renown Health in Reno and was listed in good condition as of Monday, said Spokesman Dan Davis. Her passenger, Jeff Schuitema, 55 of Sacramento, was taken by ambulance to Barton Health.

Smith was also flown to Renown Health with moderate to major injuries to his torso, legs and head, according to CHP records. He was still listed as a patient Monday, but the hospital could not release his condition, Davis said.

Cross and his 11-year-old passenger did not receive medical attention after the accident, according to CHP records.

The accident closed down highway 50 for about 45 minutes on Saturday. Lake Valley Fire District responded in addition to El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.
