Three-year sentence for robbery

A 20-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was sentenced Thursday to three years and eight months in prison for his part in a strong-arm robbery.

Jason Michael Flores pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree robbery and admitted he violated his probation when he held up a Video Maniacs’ employee Aug. 12. The man was making a night drop at El Dorado Saving Bank around 12:30 a.m. when he was approached by Flores and Timothy Lynn Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald pleaded guilty to the robbery last month.

Flores was on probation for a misdemeanor conviction and a felony conviction for possession of a controlled substance at the time of the robbery.

The victim told police that one of the men demanded the bank deposit, he refused, and the other man grabbed him in a choke hold. The employee dropped the bank bag and the robbers fled. Both Fitzgerald and Flores were customers of the store and known to the clerk. Neither man made any attempt to disguise their identity during the robbery, investigators said. Both Fitzgerald and Flores reportedly confessed to the crime during questioning. The bank bag and its contents, $1,745 have not been recovered.

Judge Jerald Lasarow told Flores that he and Fitzgerald might be responsible for providing restitution to the employee and store owners.

Fitzgerald’s sentencing is set for Oct. 15 in El Dorado County Superior Court.
