Each year, a group of quilters from Fabrics Unlimited chooses a charity to benefit from the raffle of a special handmade quilt. It just has been announced that for 2010, the Lake Tahoe Humane Society and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will be the recipient.

An original design by Sheri Lilienthal, the quilt is king size and features a cat in the center. The eight talented women of the Thursday Therapy Quilters group spent more than three months working on individual twelve-inch blocks. Planned like a puzzle, the quilters had no idea how their blocks would fit into the finished work.

The quilt will be unveiled at the Fabrics Unlimited third annual Open House and Quilt Show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at 155 Shady Lane, off Kingsbury Grade. Information is available at (775) 588-3211.
