Thursday weather report: Wind and mild temperatures today and Friday

Tom Cylke

Mild temperatures are expected today and Friday as a southwest flow of subtropical moisture spreads into Northern California along the southern periphery of a strong Pacific jet stream across Oregon.

High temperatures this afternoon will reach into the mid and upper 50s and near 60 on Friday under mostly cloudy skies. Periods of light rain can be expected in this moist flow with snow levels generally around 8,500 feet or above most major passes.

The best chance of rain will be Friday afternoon and evening ahead of a cold front, which will lower snow levels into the Basin by Saturday morning.

Overnight low temperatures tonight and Friday night will be quite mild, with readings in the mid 30s to lower 40s under cloudy and windy conditions. The normal low temperatures for mid October are in the upper 20s around the Basin.
