Tibetan lama returns to Lake Tahoe

Tibetan scholar and spiritual teacher Ven. Losang Samten will return to Lake Tahoe Aug. 25 to Sept. 1 to discuss Tibetan Buddhism. Classes will include chants, a talk, storytelling and guided meditation. All are welcome. Suggested donation of $10 to $20.

Classes will include:

– “Buddhism in the 21st Century,” 7-9 p.m. Aug. 25; “Ancient Teachings in Modern Times,” 7-9 p.m. Aug. 30 , Blue Angel Cafe loft ,1132 Ski Run Blvd., South Lake Tahoe. Call (530) 544-6544.



– “Love and Compassion in Buddhism and Christianity,” 7-9 p.m. Aug. 26, Squaw Valley Chapel, 444 Squaw Peak Rd, Olympic Valley. Samten will lead a discussion and meditation followed by a discussion with Art Domingue, chapel minister.

– “Fundamentals of Buddhist Practice,” 10:30 a.m. to noon, For Goodness Sake, 10157 Donner Pass Road, Truckee. Call (530) 550-8981.



– “Generating the Mind of Enlightenment,” 7-9 p.m. Aug. 27, Sierra College Tahoe-Truckee campus, 11001 College Trail, Truckee. Call (530) 550-2225.

– West Shore Dorje Namjum Purification Ceremony, 6-8 p.m. Aug. 29, 9045 Manzanita Drive, Rubicon Bay. Samten will lead an ancient Tibetan ceremony of healing and purification through prayer, meditation and visualization. Bring a cushion if desired. Call (530) 525-1900.

– Medicine Buddha Healing Meditation, 7-9 p.m. Sept. 1, 14255 Black Eagle Court, Reno. Samten will lead a visualization, guided meditation and chants. Bring a cushion if desired. Call (775) 622-8813.
