The TOCCATA-Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will wrap up its 2013 Summer MusicFest with a series of concerts recognizing the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, according to a statement from organizers.
The series features famed violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn performing Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D major Op. 61 on the Red Mendelssohn Stradivarius violin. The program also includes Mozart’s symphonic-choral masterpiece, Requiem. Maestro James Rawie, TOCCATA’s founder and artistic director, will conduct all of the performances.
Memorial concerts in honor of the victims of 9/11 will also be held in Carson City on Sept. 14 and in Reno on Sept. 17.
In addition to the 9/11 concerts, TOCCATA will host a tribute to the life of Paul Guttman at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8 at St. Patrick’s Church in Incline Village. Guttman was a well-known Incline Village resident who was killed in a plane crash in August.
The symphony’s vocal soloists will perform art songs and arias, and Pitcairn will perform several of Paul’s favorite “encore” pieces, according to the statement.
Admission to the Guttman memorial is free. Attendees are encouraged to bring beverages or food to share. All donations collected will go toward the Paul Guttman concert series in February and March 2014.
