TOCCATA to present ‘Passion’ series

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE ” J.S. Bach’s “Passion According to St. Matthew” will be presented by TOCCATA ” The Orchestra and Community Choral Artists of the Tahoe Area ” on Wednesday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe.
The program will feature selections from part two of the “Passion,” and will be performed in English. Soloists include Stuart Duke as Jesus and Jon Rabben as Pontius Pilate. Other soloists are Anna Helwing and Joy Strotz, soprano; Susan Sonnemaker, mezzo soprano; and Andy Sonnemaker, tenor. Darrell Moore performs as the High Priest, and MaryAnn Helman and Moe Leonard as the false witnesses. Toccata founder and artistic director, James Rawie, will conduct, and organist David Brock will play continuo along with Ben Benson, bassoon; Ben Wallek, bass; and Eileen Brownell, cello.
The “Passion” will be repeated on Good Friday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Incline Village. The final presentation takes place on Saturday, April 11 at 3:30 p.m. at the Squaw Valley Chapel.
Tickets at the door are $15 adults, $12 seniors, $5 students and youth under 12 are free. The Passion series is co-sponsored by the Carol F. Buck Foundation and the Thorny Point Foundation. The Maundy Thursday concert has no admission charge, but a free will offering will be requested.
