Today’s forecast: Cool weather to continue

A strong upper level ridge of high pressure along the west coast will direct a cool northerly flow into the Great Basin today into Friday.

A weak upper disturbance embedded in this northerly flow is expected to bring partly cloudy skies to the Lake Tahoe area today while high temperatures struggle to reach the mid 40s.

Clear skies overnight will allow low temperatures to dip into the lower teens. An upper level low pressure system is forecast to track into western Arizona on Friday resulting in brisk northeast winds across the Lake Tahoe Basin.

High temperatures Friday are forecast to top out in the lower 40s around the lake. Northeast surface winds are expected to blow around 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 80 mph along the Sierra crest Friday.

Quiet weather is expected Saturday ahead of another weak cold front forecast to push across the area Sunday. While computer models are now showing Sunday’s weather system to be weakening in a split flow of the jet stream, it bears watching for travelers returning from the holiday weekend.
