Today’s weather: Windy today and Christmas, cold temps later in the week

om Cylke

A weak front will bring cloudy skies and a few light snow showers to the Lake Tahoe area this morning before exiting the area by midday.

High temperatures this afternoon will climb into the lower 40s with clearing skies. Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph this morning will shift to northerly behind the weak cold front. Mostly clear skies tonight will allow overnight temperatures to dip into the single digits around the lake with some local areas of freezing fog possible especially near Truckee.

Christmas day looks to be dry with increasing mid and high level clouds spreading over the area during the day. Mostly cloudy skies will keep daytime temperatures in the mid to upper 30s in the afternoon on Christmas day.

Colder and unsettled weather is forecast for the remainder of the week as a series of cold weather systems dive south into the Tahoe area from the Gulf of Alaska beginning Wednesday. Stay tuned to see if any of these systems bring significant snow to the Tahoe Basin.
