Topaz Ranch Estates fire contained
A small Bureau of Land Management crew is patrolling what’s left of the 7,152-acre Topaz Ranch Estates fire after it was declared contained Saturday evening.
Snow and rain on Friday and Saturday helped crews douse the fire. On Sunday, the crew was working on the bulldozer line, re-establishing natural resources and monitoring what was left of the fire.
Officials say smoke may be visible from the fire as islands of green fuels continue to burn in the interior.
Two homes and 17 outbuildings were destroyed not long after the fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon on the northern flank of Topaz Ranch Estates near Sandstone Drive.
A May 20 controlled burn that rekindled in the wind is being implicated in the fire. East Fork firefighters responded to the burn. How that response was handled is being investigated by the Bureau of Land Management, the Nevada Fire Marshal’s Office and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
No injuries or deaths were reported as a direct result of the fire, though a television station employee received minor injuries when she lost control of the company vehicle while leaving a press briefing.
