Torra shines in Aces’ win over Nashville

REN – Matt Torra allowed just one earned run over 8.1 innings of work Friday night, lifting the Reno Aces to a 6-2 win over the Nashville Sounds at Aces Ballpark.

The Aces took an early 6-0 lead through three innings, and Torra (8-6) took care of the rest. The right-hander took a shutout into the ninth and finished by giving up eight hits and two runs – one earned over 8 1/3 frames. Torra walked one and punched out two in a 106-pitch effort. Jose Marte came on with one out in the ninth and recorded the final two outs.

At the dish for Reno, Ryan Roberts led the way with three hits, a run and an RBI. Tony Abreu singled and doubled, while driving in three runs. Brandon Allen and Cole Gillespie added two hits apiece, while Jeff Bailey drew a walk to extend his home on-base streak to a franchise-high 34 straight games.

Sounds starter Marty McLeary (5-7) took the loss Friday, surrendering six runs – five earned – on 10 hits over five innings.
