Training offered in amateur radio

Provided to the Tribune

The Sierra Intermountain Emergency Radio Association in connection with Douglas County Senior Services will provide an amateur radio class for six Friday evenings, running from March 31 to May 19. Classes will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Carson Valley Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville.

Amateur radio is an exciting hobby senior citizens of all ages can enjoy. The purpose of the class is to prepare students to pass the FCC Amateur Radio exam to help get them started. Being a ham operator will allow you to communicate around the world and assist your community during special events and disasters as an emergency communicator.

The course is offered free of charge and the only cost is the purchase of the text book, “Now You’re Talking.” The final exam will take place May 20.

If you are interested in getting started in this interesting and rewarding hobby contact Dale Anderson at (775) 267-4218 or Will Lewis at (775) 782-6949.
