Transient man arrested for arson Saturday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – South Lake Tahoe Police arrested a transient man Saturday on charges of arson related to a suspicious fire east of Al Tahoe Boulevard.

About 7:15 a.m. police and the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department responded to a reported fire at the meadow behind the residential subdivision of Pioneer Village, east of Al Tahoe Boulevard.

They found an uncontrolled fire burning about 10 feet by 10 feet with one-foot high flames. The fire was burning in a wooded and brushy area 100 feet away from the houses near the meadow.

Police found Luke Dons, 22, sleeping on the ground about 20 feet away from the fire. Police believe Dons is transient and was intoxicated. Upon investigation Dons told police that he started the fire, but did not explain why, according to a release from SLTPD. Dons was booked into the El Dorado County Jail on $40,000 bail.

The fire caused no damage to private property and no one as injured. The fire department extinguished the flames.
