The annual Community Holiday Tree and Menorah Lighting Ceremony is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority Visitors Center, 3066 Lake Tahoe Blvd., across from the Tahoe Daily Tribune.

Festivities will include Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and their elves, music by Lake DJ, carols sung by the Blue Ribbon Choir and free sleigh or carriage rides from Borges Family Sleigh and Carriage Rides. Santa will be available for photos, and everyone should bring their own camera.

The event also will feature hot chocolate, cider and cookies, and authentic homemade tamale dinners sponsored by J&J Pro Kleen Inc. and Margaritas Restaurant. The tamale dinners will cost $5 each, and proceeds will benefit Tahoe Thunder Under-10 and Tahoe Revolution Under-14 boys soccer teams.
