Tree of Remembrance ceremonies this week

Denise Sloan Smart / Barton HealthCare System

The approaching holidays can be the most difficult time of year for those who’ve recently lost a loved one. Barton’s Hospice of the Lake and Valley wants to help celebrate fond memories of departed loved ones during two Tree of Remembrance events.

The Carson Valley will offer its Tree of Remembrance from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. The South Shore Tree of Remembrance is scheduled from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church, 2733 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

During Tree of Remembrance ceremonies, Barton’s Hospice staff honors and remembers through prayer and candle-lighting, acknowledges loved ones’ names, and presents holiday music and special activities. The interfaith ceremony allows guests to reflect on their personal memories and pay tribute to the memories that still live on within.

If you would like to honor someone’s memory and have his or her name read at the Tree of Remembrance, call (530) 543-5614. Names to be read also will be accepted at the ceremony. Guests may light a candle during the ceremony and enjoy a social time and light refreshments afterward.

Donations to Hospice of the Lake are accepted, but not necessary, for your loved one’s name to be read.

New this year, Barton’s Hospice is offering handmade porcelain keepsake ornaments featuring an angel holding a house. Each Memory Angel ornament is glazed with mother-of-pearl. All donations of $50 or more receive one ornament, available at the respective ceremonies or at the Barton Hospital Foundation Office, 2092 Lake Tahoe Blvd., Suite 400. Additional ornaments will be available for $25 each at both ceremonies.
