What: James Garner’s Tribute to Johnny Cash
When: 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26
Where: Valhalla Boathouse Theatre, South Lake Tahoe
One could call James Garner the “Fan in Black.”
The musician and Johnny Cash fan will bring his tribute to the legendary songwriter to South Shore’s Valhalla Boathouse Theatre this Wednesday.
“While James is not a Johnny Cash impersonator, he is a Johnny Cash fan (a really big one),” according to Garner’s online biography. “James became hooked on Cash’s music at an early age, getting his hands on everything Cash. At age fourteen, he met Cash backstage after one of the singer’s shows, shaking his hand and telling him he was his ‘biggest fan.’ Against that backdrop, James and his band proudly present the Man in Black’s music as fans, for fans.
“James Garner’s Tribute to Johnny Cash celebrates the life and music of the Man in Black with strong conviction and stunning accuracy. Garner and his band faithfully recreate Cash’s biggest hits, such as Folsom Prison Blues, I Walk the Line and Ring of Fire, and incorporate historical accounts and personal anecdotes about America’s most beloved singing storyteller in this not-to-be-missed musical event. The show is a fun, classy and toe-tapping trip down memory lane honoring Johnny Cash’s life and music, and the boom-chicka-boom sound of his longtime backing band, the Tennessee Three.”
Valhalla is located just west of Camp Richardson off of California State Route 89 at Lake Tahoe’s South Shore.
