TRPA at least a month away from learning new home

Gregory Crofton, Tahoe Daily Tribune

Where the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency will have its office a year from now will not be decided until the end of June.

The TPRA Governing Board was scheduled to decide where the agency will move its office when it convenes today at Kings Beach. But a failed subcommittee meeting last week will likely delay the item and put it on the agenda for the June 26 meeting.

Three of six members who did not attend last week’s meeting represent Nevada, said Jill Keller, spokeswoman for the agency.

“All the ideas were presented, but there was not a quorum so nothing was able to be decided by the committee,” she said. “We think they’ll bring it to the board in June.”

The agency needs to move from the office it rents on Dorla Court at Round Hill because it’s too small, lacks parking and its staff is growing. Its lease at that location ends April 2003.

The agency is considering five office-lease proposals, three in Nevada and two in California. The proposals in Nevada include the Lakeview Office Center at 224 Kingsbury Grade, a warehouse on Market Street off Kingsbury Grade and office space at the Round Hill Shopping Center. The proposed space in California would be built at D Street or Third Street.

In March, TRPA canceled plans to build its own office on the Lake Tahoe Community College campus next to a new U.S. Forest Service building under construction.
