TRPA implements furlough days

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency will be closed one additional workday day each month through June to help curtail costs.

The first furlough day is Friday. The cost savings of all six furlough days is about $100,000, said TRPA Spokesman Dennis Oliver.

“This is due to anticipated funding constraints from the state of Nevada, investment income, and general sluggishness affecting application fees,” Oliver said.

The agency also had a furlough week between Christmas and New Year’s 2009 to save on expenses. In 2009 the agency cut 11 staff positions through layoffs, buyouts and leaving vacant positions open.

The TRPA South Shore offices will be closed Jan. 15, Feb. 12, March 12, April 5, May 7 and June 11.
