TRPA interviewers decided, interviewees up in the air

Gregory Crofton, Tahoe Daily Tribune

Saying they didn’t have enough time to read through essays turned in by applicants, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Executive Director Selection Committee decided on Tuesday to push back its selection of five candidates from a pool of 15.

The committee will meet today at Kings Beach to try to make the cut by the end of the day, said Ronald Slaven, a TRPA Governing Board member and chairman of the selection committee.

The committee on Tuesday did OK the recommendations made by TRPA acting Director Jerry Wells to fill an eight-member public panel. The panel is expected to be allowed three hours in October to interview a final group of candidates.

The panel will be: Gary Midkiff, a planning consultant based at Round Hill, as a business community representative; Jan Briscoe, executive director of Tahoe Lakefront Owners’ Association, who will represent homeowners; Jon-Paul Harries, program director at the League to Save Lake Tahoe, who represents environmental groups; Andrew Strain, of Heavenly Ski Resort, as a local organizations representative; Michael Mantell, of the Resource Law Group in Sacramento, to represent outside-of-the-basin issues; Kathryn Reed, managing editor of the Tahoe Daily Tribune, as the media’s representative; and Paul Nielsen, who represents the TRPA staff.
