TRPA to give awards to top builders

Gregory Crofton, Tahoe Daily Tribune

Planners at the Lake Tahoe Basin want to award people for building what they consider ideal for Tahoe’s environment.

Each year around this time, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency asks people to nominate new residential and new commercial construction projects so a handful of them can be honored. Winners are awarded certificates of recognition at a meeting of the TRPA Governing Board.

Projects are judged by a team of architects, engineers, planners and landscapers. Competition categories also include residential and commercial remodels, as well as public service, erosion control, recreation and restoration projects.

The deadline to nominate a project is Sept. 1. Building projects are judged based on site planning, erosion controls, landscape and architectural design. Water quality projects are judged on effectiveness, design, capacity for maintenance and appearance.

A nomination form can be found on the Web under “programs” at or picked up at the TRPA office, 128 Market St., off lower Kingsbury Grade.
