What is the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency?

For those who would like to know, the bi-state regulatory agency is hosting its first open house Thursday to introduce staff members to the public and facilitate hands-on learning in planning and other areas.

“We want to let people know we’re here and we’re a public agency,” said Pam Drum, TRPA public affairs coordinator. “We welcome any members of the public to come through our doors and learn about what we do and who we are, and to help them learn about how they can protect the environment of Lake Tahoe.”

Classroom tours are available during the morning portion of the event.

About 70 South Tahoe Middle School students are scheduled to take a tour and learn about the difference between carbureted two-stroke and four-stroke engines from a water tank demonstration, which will also be performed for the general public in the afternoon.

TRPA Governing Board chairman and Nevada Secretary of State, Dean Heller will be on hand at 1 p.m. to meet the public and take questions.

Teachers wanting to bring a class should contact Gretchen Gibson at (775) 588-4547, ext. 250. For general information, call (775) 588-4547, ext. 237.
