TRPA to release draft of Regional Plan Update in late April

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency will release the Regional Plan Update draft documents for public review in late April, TRPA officials announced Thursday.

The RPU is a blueprint for the Tahoe Region’s sustainable future. Six draft documents will be released for public review: the draft of the updated plan and corresponding environmental impact stangment, along with code of ordinances documents, the Regional Transportation Plan and related environmental impact statement and the Threshold Evaluation Report. The Threshold Evaluation Report provides an overview of the condition of the Tahoe ecosystem and tracks progress on TRPA’s environmental standards, called thresholds. Review by independent scientific experts is under way and their input will be included in the draft documents.

The documents had been scheduled to be released at the March 28 Governing Board meeting, followed by a 60-day public input period. The meetings will be canceled under the updated schedule and the draft RPU will be released at the Governing Board meetings scheduled for April 25 and 26. Evening public workshops will be scheduled for late May to provide additional opportunities for community engagement.

During the meeting, a discussion will be held to decide whether the comment period should be 60, 75 or 90 days and how each option would impact the final RPU delivery schedule.
