TRPA whittles candidates for top post to 15

Gregory Crofton, Tahoe Daily Tribune

It started out a stack of 100 applications. Now it’s 15. By the end of today the number of people vying to be executive director of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency will likely be cut to seven.

The decision of who will be cut will be made by the Executive Director Selection Committee, comprised of members of the TRPA Governing Board. Members meet today in open session at the agency’s office on Market Street off Kingsbury Grade from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

“We’ve talked about keeping it at the five to seven range,” said Jerry Wells, acting TRPA executive director, of the number of candidates selected to be interviewed by the full Governing Board at the end of October.

Those selected will also be questioned by a panel of residents representing a variety of community interests. About 12 people have been nominated to be on the panel, which contains eight seats. Wells said people chosen to be on the panel will also be announced at today’s meeting.

Resumes of the 15 candidates for executive director can be reviewed at the front desk of the TRPA. The majority of the applicants live outside the basin, Wells said.
