Truckee man sentenced for distributing, possessing child pornography

by Gregory Crofton, Tribune staff writer

A 47-year-old Truckee man was sentenced Friday to 71 months in prison for distributing and possessing child pornography.

At the hearing in a federal district court, it was revealed that Kenneth Lynn Pierce possessed 1200 images depicting minors in sexual situations involving sadism, bondage and masochism.

In addition to the prison sentence, the maximum that could have been imposed, Pierce was fined $10,000, will have to register as a sex offender and serve a 3-year-supervised release term. He was convicted of a similar crime more than 14 years ago.

An undercover officer pretending to be a young man via the Internet began communication with Pierce in October 1999. During their exchange, Pierce told the officer that he distributed child pornography and explained how to hide the images in different storage devices.

Law enforcement agents armed with a warrant searched Pierce’s Truckee home Jan. 26 and found a computer system, scanner and diskettes. The 47-year-old pleaded guilty to the charges in April.

Prior to his arrest Feb. 2, Pierce worked at a ski resort near Truckee. He also claimed to manage a boys in-line skating team and promote young male actors.
