The local contest featured students from South Tahoe High School performing instrumental music solos in a contest for cash prizes and the opportunity to move to the next level of competition.

Competing were Greg Gaskin, trumpet; Nick Garratt, trombone; Mary Kurek, flute; and winner Troy Mikanovich, tuba.

Mikanovich will go on to compete on March 29 against winners from Whittell, Douglas and Carson high schools. Rotary congratulates the student musicians.
