Don’t vote for global warming, vote for Earth.

From 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on March 28, many South Shore residents will show their support for the planet by switching off their lights in honor of Earth hour.

The goal of is for 1 billion people to switch off their lights as part of a global vote to take a stand against climate change. More than 74 countries and territories have pledged their support.

Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, Harveys Resort and Casino, and Bills Casino are just a few of the businesses participating.

Harrah’s spokesman John Packer said the casinos will shut off their nonessential lighting, which includes marquees and outside lighting that doesn’t effect public safety. Any guests staying at the casinos are welcome to participate too, he added.

For others who want to participate and find out more information, go to earthhour.org.
