Two crashes cause only minor injuries

by Gregory Crofton, Tribune staff writer

A man driving U.S. Highway 50 one mile east of State Route 28 Sunday afternoon drifted across the road and ran over a light pole.

Nevada Highway Patrol reported that Thomas Henry Kover, a 50-year-old Reno, Nev., man was injured when the 1995 Izuzu he was driving slammed into the pole causing the SUV to roll. Paramedics took Kover to Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was discharged Tuesday.

Nevada Highway Patrol Troy Lindley said that light poles on the highway are held in place with special breakaway bolts.

“It’s not like hitting a fixed tree,” Lindley said. “All federal signs and poles have those bolts on them.”

Lindley reported that there were no skid marks on the highway and that alcohol was not involved in the accident.

Friday another car flipped on U.S. Highway 50 six miles east of Stateline. Dharamvir Singh, 27, from Reno, Nev., had allegedly been drinking and was speeding when he crossed into the westbound lane and drove over the guardrail, Nevada Highway Patrol reported. His 1996 Toyota flipped several times and came to rest on its roof on “Old Lincoln Highway,” NHP reported. Singh and two of his three passengers were injured. As of Tuesday evening, all three Reno men had been treated and released from various hospitals. Trooper Lindley reported that the Toyota damaged 51 feet of guardrail.
