Two injured in head-on near Camp Sacramento

Two cars hit head-on Friday around noon on U. S. Highway 50 just west of Camp Sacramento.

A 1992 white Buick Park Avenue, driven by Daniel Hilgert, a 23-year-old from Fremont, Calif., crossed the center line and smashed into a 1990 black Honda Accord, according to California Highway Patrol.

A female passenger in the Accord was taken by Care Flight to Washoe Medical Center. Her injury turned out to be a minor chest injury, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Gwaltney.

Hilgert, as well as the driver of the Accord, Brian Prater, a 21-year-old from Oakland, Calif., received minor injuries and were released after spending one night at Barton Memorial Hospital. All the people involved in the accident were wearing seat belts at the time of impact.

CHP closed Highway 50 for about 30 minutes so the helicopter could land and the two totaled cars could be towed away.
