Two injured in Saturday crash

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Drunken driving is suspected in a crash on Pioneer Trail that sent two people to the hospital this week.

The crash happened about 12:45 a.m. Saturday when a vehicle left the road and struck a power pole near Oneidas Street, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Jeff Gartner.

The driver of the vehicle was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, while the passenger was taken to Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe following the crash.

Further details of the incident, including the identity of the victims and their injuries, were not available Thursday afternoon.

Gartner said the agency would be notified if one of the crash victims had died. The crash severed the power pole and knocked out power to surrounding neighborhoods, Gartner said.
