Two South Lake Tahoe Firefighters promoted
The South Lake Tahoe Fire Department has a new engineer and captain.
During a Tuesday ceremony at Station No. 2, the fire department promoted Russ Dow to the position of fire captain and Sean Ward to the position of engineer.
Ward said he was “happy to be promoted.” After 13 years with the fire department, he will be responsible for vehicle and pump operations. He’ll also handle more driving duties, steering the 32,000-pound truck around South Lake Tahoe’s icy roads to get the crew to fires and accidents safely.
“I’m responsible for the water supply, so it’s a big responsibility because people inside are depending on my expertise,” Ward said.
Besides driving and operating the truck’s pumps, Ward will maintain the pump and safety equipment on the truck.
Dow, an engineer who’s been with the department 15 years, was promoted to fire captain. His new duties include arranging testing and promotions for other firefighters. He has been president of the South Lake Tahoe Firemen’s Association for two years.
“It’s my job to make sure that the crew is organized to get the work done,” Dow said Wednesday from his home. “I supervise the crew and any of the incidents that come around in my fire zone.”
Dow said he is looking forward to the added responsibilities and the chance to help newer firefighters.
