U-Haul crashes into Subway shop

Jim Grant / Tahoe Daily TribuneDue to a medical condition, a driver of a U Haul truck is treated by paramedics after crashing it into the Subway shop at the "Y" late this morning.

The driver of a U-Haul truck was taken by ground ambulance for treatment after crashing the vehicle into the wall of Subway sandwich shop at the “Y” at about 11 a.m., this morning authorities said.

The driver apparently suffered a medical problem that caused him to veer off the road and into the building, said South Lake Tahoe Fire Division Chief Brad Piazzo.

Three employees were in the restaurant at the time of the crash but no other injuries were reported. It was not known how many customers were inside.

Firefighters were working as of noon to shore up the damaged wall and stabilize the building.
