A fire early this morning caused severe damage to the Chateau Inn and Suites located near the intersection of Cedar and Manzanita in South Lake Tahoe.

The fire took out a three-story structure. No injuries or fatalities have been reported. Multiple fire agencies responded and investigators are at the scene trying to determine the cause.

The fire was reported at around 3 a.m.

In an e-mail early this morning to city leaders, South Lake Tahoe City Manager David Jinkens said various agencies responded to the blaze.

Units from Lake Valley Fire Protection District and Tahoe Douglas were on the scene assisting South Lake Tahoe Fire Department units in addition to South Lake Tahoe police, Jinkens said.

“The inn appears to be or will be completely destroyed when the fire is put out. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, and it is being investigated,” Jinkens said in the e-mail. “Both on duty, off duty and reserve city fire personnel are on scene, and our fire personnel and allied agency personnel are doing a great job containing the fire.”

The newly installed and activated fire hydrants on Cedar are providing high water flow to fight the fire and illustrate the importance of having and adequate water supply, hydrants, and a good water distribution system in place in support of adequate firefighting personnel, Jinkens added.
