Update 12:27 p.m.: Accident inside Cave Rock tunnel of Highway 50 stalls wesbound traffic

Authorities have responded to a three-vehicle accident inside the Cave Rock tunnel on Highway 50 in the westbound lane. One injury is being reported. A person has complained of neck pains. The accident happened at about 12:10 this afternoon.

Traffic has slowed to a halt at Cave Rock as fire engines and rescue crews respond. First responders at the scene have alerted their bases to scale back on the number of emergency units being dispatched.

Highway 50 at the tunnel is reported as being extremely icy. Sand trucks have been ordered to dust the areas inside and outside the tunnels.
