A box containing what was reportedly a bomb used in a bank robbery inside Raley’s at Stateline was rendered harmless this evening, authorities said.

Festivities at Stateline will proceed as planned, authorities said. Meanwhile, police have released this photo of the robbery suspect. If you have information on the suspect, please call South Lake Tahoe Police at (530) 542-6100.

“It hasn’t affected anything at Stateline tonight,” South Lake Tahoe police Lt. Martin Hale said.

The Douglas County bomb squad arrived at the Stateline Raley’s where the Wells Fargo Bank inside the store was reportedly robbed this afternoon by a man claiming he had an explosive inside a box. A bomb squad robot was deployed inside the store.

According to police, the suspect, a man, handed a teller a note with the box and fled the store with an undetermined amount of cash at about 3:10 this afternoon, Hale said.

The suspect remains at large.

Raley’s was evacuated during the ordeal.

The box the robber threatened bank employees with was left inside the store, witnesses at the scene said.

The parking lot at Raley’s had been blocked off by South Lake Tahoe police and El Dorado County deputies.
