Update 9:50 a.m.: chains and snow tire requirements expand

Chains or snowtires are now required on several roads as a new storm pushes through the Sierra. The Lake Tahoe Basin is under a winter storm warning. Heavy snow is expected through this afternoon. This report is as of 9:50 a.m.

Chains or snowtires between Kyburz and State Route 89, and between South Lake Tahoe and Carson City over Spooner Summit.

Chains mandatory for 7 miles between California state line and Tahoe City.



Road closed for 8 miles between Highway 50 and Bliss State Park. Snowtires or chains required for 60 miles between Bliss State Park

and Calpine.



Snowtires or chains required for 19 miles between Kirkwood and one mile west of Woodfords.

Chains or snowtires required from junction of Highway 50 on the Tahoe side the bottom on the valley side.

Campers and trailers prohibited through the Washoe Valley.
