UPDATED: Blue Gay-La ski week highlighted by big-name bands, comics

“Get Down Tonight” and “Shake Your Booty” with KC & the Sunshine Band during the second annual Blue Gay-La gay and lesbian ski week beginning today through Jan. 27 at South Shore.

Blue Gay-La combines skiing and riding with 24-hour gaming and nightlife, entertainment, comedy, top-rated DJs, après-ski parties, hot nightclubs and on-mountain activities.

KC & the Sunshine Band perform Friday, Jan. 25, in Harrah’s South Shore Room, preceding British ska band the English Beat at MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa.

KC & the Sunshine Band are still partying after 34 years with their fusion of R&B, funk and disco. They will bring back Grammy Award-winning hits such as, “I’m Your Boogie Man,” “Let’s Go Party,” “Get Down Tonight,” “That’s The Way (I Like It)” and “Shake Your Booty.”

The English Beat combines rock, soul, ska reggae and pop in classic hits such as “Tears of a Clown,” and “Mirror in the Bathroom.”

Comedians Paula Poundstone and Anthony “Ant” Kalloniatis will have the audience at the MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa in stitches Saturday, Jan. 26. Poundstone has appeared on “Saturday Night Live” and was is the first woman to receive the Cable ACE for best standup comedy special, and the first woman to perform at the White House correspondents dinner.

Kalloniatis has become a sensation through NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.” He is a regular guest on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and “The Tyra Banks Show.” Guests won’t want to miss the Energy 92.7 after-party at Club BLÜ featuring DJ Chris Cox.

Blue Gay-La brings new action to South Lake Tahoe’s gay and lesbian ski week:

— Comedy Night at The Improv at Harveys, featuring Howie Nave, Chipper Lowell and Jason Stuart – Wednesday-Sunday, Jan. 23-27 at 8, 9 and 10 p.m. Saturday.

— Chocolate and martini party at Opal Ultra Lounge inside MontBleu, featuring speed dating and party games – Thursday, Jan. 24 from 6-9 p.m.

— Blue World Pub Crawl, featuring Picchetti Winery, the Tudor Pub and Hard Rock Café

— GLOW After Party at BLU inside MontBleu featuring top-rated DJ Chris Cox – beginning at 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26.

— A guided group snowmobile tour at Zephyr Cove Resort at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25.

— A live radio remote featuring Greg and Fernando of San Francisco’s Energy 92.7 from 6-10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25 at Del Soul inside MontBleu.

The notorious “Queen of the Mountain Drag Races” returns to Heavenly Mountain Resort from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, challenging both men and women in drag.

Celebrity judges will determine winners based on style as well as performance. Participants can bring their own soundtrack or props to enhance the presentation. Awards include tickets to South Shore restaurants and attractions. Contestants must have a lift ticket to enter. Registration is free and will begin at noon at the base of World Cup at Heavenly.
