Upper Kingsbury condo project on today’s commission agenda

Out of the domain of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and now in the hands of Douglas County, leaders today will consider a stacked, 40 condominium complex in the upper Kingsbury area.

The Douglas County Commission will consider the development proposal, by Nanuk Real Estate Consulting and Jack Sievers. The project is located at Jack Court and Tramway Drive.

The developer will ask the maximum building height be raised from 35 to 100 feet, foregoing conventional sidewalks instead with off-street trails. The developer also wants the elimination of the required recreational vehicle parking stalls.

The Douglas County Planning Commission approved the project by a 5-1 vote in December, with Commissioner Margaret Pross casting the one dissenting vote.

In a letter to county officials, Stateline neighbors Erin and J.T. Tragert said the ambience and character of their community would be lost if the development proceeds.

“If you allow this development to vary the rules, soon there will be high-rise buildings all over Douglas County where they don’t belong,” they said.

The project, to be called Sierra Sunrise, includes 40 units ranging in size from 1,620 to 5,500 square feet. Eleven common areas include public and private parking and a trailhead.
