Utility district cancels special meeting

The South Tahoe Public Utility District canceled a special meeting scheduled for today because the district received no bids for a Meyers construction project.

Board members were scheduled to award a contract for the construction of a building to house an MTBE treatment facility for the Arrowhead well.

Dennis Cocking, district spokesman, said he’s not sure why no bids were received.

“Maybe local contractors we expected to bid on this had other jobs going on,” he said.

Cocking said district staff will research reasons for the lack of contractor interest and will schedule the issue for the board’s next meeting Sept. 6.

Board members could reopen the request for bids or they could seek out a contractor.

Cocking said the district is still waiting on some engineering logistics, so the project won’t be stalled by the prolonged bid period.
