Lake Tahoe’s lords, ladies, knights, kings, queens, paupers, princes and, perhaps, a few village idiots will gather for the 21st annual Valhalla Renaissance Faire at Camp Richardson the first two weekends in June.

“South Lake Tahoe’s Camp Richardson is the perfect backdrop for the transformation back in time. If you have never had the opportunity to go to a Renaissance Faire, Valhalla Renaissance Faire is something to experience,” Marti Miernik, CEO of Renaissance Productions, said in a statement. “The faire will be entertaining from the moment you step into the park. We have prepared something very special to celebrate the 21st anniversary of this faire.”

The event recreates a Renaissance village, including a merchant marketplace, craftspeople and a selection of food and drink. In addition, a variety of acts will take place throughout the event. Knights will battle and joust. Shakespeare will host a number of characters from his plays. Musicians and comics will roam throughout the site.

The first weekend, June 1-2, is geared toward younger audiences, with shows, theater, music and magic. Children are invited to dress up, learn about Shakespeare and the Renaissance, play games, enter costume contests and get drenched at the court of St. Aidens.

Pirate and barbarian hordes invade the faire on the second weekend. Attendees can partake in scavenger hunts, costume contests and talk-like-a-pirate competitions.
