Submitted to the Tribune

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Valhalla Tahoe is proud to announce the beginning of a significant preservation project at the beloved historic Heller Estate (Valhalla). This preservation effort, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, will ensure that Valhalla remains a treasured landmark for another 100 years.

Work has already begun on essential repairs and replacements, which include:

  • Deck Railings: All railings along the deck are being replaced in-kind to maintain safety and
structural integrity of this feature of the building.
  • Structural Repairs: Damaged bark on key support posts is being repaired to preserve the
    estate’s natural aesthetic and stability.
  • Back Stairs & Railings: The cobblestone stairs at the rear of the building, along with their
railings, are being reconstructed in-kind using the existing stones to maintain historical integrity.

As a National Register of Historic Places property, it is essential to preserve the estate’s original look and feel. The careful attention to detail honors the craftsmanship of Valhalla’s past while securing its future.

“We are dedicated to protecting Valhalla’s history while ensuring it remains a welcoming gathering place for the community,” said Meg Peart, Executive Director of Valhalla Tahoe. “The restoration of these elements will allow future generations to continue to experience and enjoy this incredible space as so many have over the past century.”
