Veterans Day activities

Stella Van Dyke Johnson American Legion Post 795 of South Lake Tahoe will present a memorial service at 11 a.m. Sunday in remembrance of Veterans Day.

The service will take place in the American Legion parking lot, 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held inside the American Legion Hall.

The ceremony will include the Junior Navy Reserve Officers Training Corps Color Guard, taps played by bugler Francine Tanner and “Amazing Grace” played by the Black Bear Piper Band.

In addition, there will be presentations by Norma Santiago, El Dorado County supervisor; Kathay Lovell, mayor of South Lake Tahoe; Gene Ross, American Legion commander; Bill Kerr, Veterans of Foreign Wars commander; Gayle Ross, American Legion Auxiliary president; Terry Daniels, South Lake Tahoe police chief; and Lorenzo Gigliotti, South Lake Tahoe fire chief.

Also, in honor of the men and women who have served in the armed forces, American flags will be placed on the grave of each veteran at Happy Homestead Cemetery by Friends of the Veterans of El Dorado County, South Lake Tahoe, early on Sunday morning.

Cake and coffee will be served to the public after the service in the American Legion Hall.
