Vikings’ home games back on for Saturday

Ah, the sunshine reappeared in the Tahoe Basin on Friday and the brightness found the South Tahoe High baseball team.

Two inches of midweek moisture in Reno postponed Friday’s rescheduled baseball game between the Vikings and Bishop Manogue Miners.

“Manogue says their fields are not playable (Friday) and Saturday,” said Vikings’ Athletic Director Don Borges.

With the Vikings’ “grounds crew” able to clear snow from all but the warning track and foul territory by early Friday afternoon, the three-game series between the schools has been returned to South Tahoe’s Todd Fields.

A home-opening doubleheader has been scheduled for noon Saturday at Todd Fields, and the teams will conclude the series with a 3:45 p.m. game Monday in South Lake Tahoe.

The South Tahoe softball team went ahead with its rescheduled league game Friday at Manogue. The Vikings, however, have switched Saturday’s games back to softball field at South Tahoe Middle School for a home-opening doubleheader. First pitch has been moved back to noon to accommodate more drying.

“We would love to have the community support the Vikings on Saturday and Monday,” Borges said.

South Tahoe’s JV baseball team will attempt to play a doubleheader at noon Saturday at Manogue and is scheduled to play its home opener at 3:45 p.m. Monday at Todd Fields. The Vikings’ JV softball team is not scheduled to play on Saturday.
