South Tahoe was depositing so many goals into the net on Thursday against Dayton that the Vikings put their goalkeeper at forward for much of the second half.

Senior Kory DiGrande scored a first-half hat trick and three Vikings each scored twice in a 12-1 rout of the Dust Devils at the Community Youth Sports Complex in South Lake Tahoe.

Senior goalkeeper Peter Pielaet-Strayer, who blanked Dayton in the first half, was moved to forward in the second half in a sporting move. Pielaet-Strayer had a handful of excellent scoring chances, but the Dust Devils denied the keeper from being the Vikings’ eighth scorer in the match.

Kyle Wallace and Cody Williams each scored twice in the first, which ended 9-0, and Griffen Boles added a pair of goals in the second half. Emilio Romero, Ryan Caro and Derek Caro also found the scoring column for the Vikings.

Dayton averted a shutout late in the game when Alfredo Dominguez squeezed a 45-yard shot into the upper left-hand corner of the goal. STHS responded with Boles notching a similar goal from 35 yards out.

The Vikings (7-1 overall, 4-0 in league play) travels to North Tahoe on Tuesday.
