Vikings softball comes up short in tournament

The Vikings softball team lost three of three games during a weekend tournament

In a battle of pitching Dayton came out on top, the only score came in the fifth inning on an error. Brittany Sanchez and Emily Rives both hit singles in the seventh inning to break up the no hitter for Dayton’s pitcher. Melissa Smith had seven strikeouts and one walk for the Vikings.

Emily Rives scored Tahoe’s only run after reaching base on a single and stole home on a passed ball for the Vikings in the fourth inning. Amanda Rives had two hits and Bailey David, Brittany Harper and Mel Smith all hit singles. Brittany Sanchez at shortstop tagged Fallon’s Shelby Lawry trying to steal second on a throw from catcher Sid Loomis to end the sixth inning. Mel Smith pitched the entire game and had 10 strikeouts against the Greenwave.

Bailey David hit a Double for one RBI and Brittany Sanchez hit a single for an RBI in the second Sid Loomis had three singles and Sam Durham had two hits and scored once but it wasn’t enough to hold off Fernley who scored one in the third, two in the fifth and two in the sixth for the win. Emily Rives caught a fly ball to center and catcher Sid Loomis threw out a runner stealing to second. Mel Smith pitching her third complete game in two days had eight strikeouts and one walk for the Vikings.
