Vikings sweep Manogue

South Tahoe High’s tennis teams swept Bishop Manogue on Thursday – the boys outlasting the Miners 10-8 and the girls polishing off a 14-4 home win.

Phillip Gaston clinched the key boys’ win with his third-round singles victory.

Singles players Rebecca Roberts, Cassandra Marin and Maggie Lee led the girls’ victory as each won three matches.

Roberts defeated Taylor Grogan 6-0, Paulina Bossie 6-1 and Bethany Kette 6-1. Marin stopped Bossie 6-0, Kette 6-0 and Krogan 6-1. Lee downed Kette 6-2, Grogan 6-4 and Bossie 6-0.

The Vikings’ No. 1 doubles team of Angel Aquino and Kelsey Metzger won both of their matches, as did No. 2 duo Amanda and Emily Rives.

Gaston picked up three crucial wins in singles play, winning 6-4, 6-2 and 6-3 – the latter victory cinching the Vikings’ team win.

South Tahoe won six of the nine doubles matches, with Grant Jones and Gregory Baghdikian and Colton Marchesseault and Kolton Van Pelt combining for all six.

The South Tahoe girls (2-0) will play host to Carson on Tuesday, while the boys (2-0) travel to Carson City.
