Vikings win league opener by blanking Incline

Sylas Wright / Tahoe Daily TribuneJuan Camacho of South Tahoe High pushes the ball up field against Incline on Thursday in Incline Village.

South Tahoe’s boys beat Incline for the second time in the young season, shutting out the Highlanders 3-0 Thursday in Incline Village.

Senior Kory DiGrande opened the scoring in the 30th minute on a feed from Eddie Hernandez. Five minutes into the second half, Hernandez made it 2-0, scoring off a cross from Luca Genasci. Derek Caro scored the Vikings’ final goal, knocking a corner kick off the back of a defender and into the goal.

STHS assistant coach Bill Spicer said the Vikings’ offense came alive after adjusting to the smaller field, and a solid defensive effort was led by Griffen Boles, DiGrande, Martin Sanchez, Evan Sanchez and Ryan Caro. Keepers Sergio Rodriguez and Peter Pielaet-Strayer shared the shutout.
