Volunteers needed for search and rescue team

Douglas County Search and Rescue is looking for volunteers to join its team.

The team is a volunteer unit run by the Douglas Sheriff’s Deparment. The team responds to lost and injured people in the back country, as well as disasters and other public safety emergencies that fall under the sheriff’s jurisdiction.

Last year, the team responded to more than 50 mission in Douglas County and surrounding areas. It responds to emergencies at any time, but no member is expected to respond to every event. Members are expected to attend regular trainings to develop skills.

Informational meetings will be held May 8 at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in Minden, Nev., and May 16 at the Lake Tahoe Chamber meeting room, located off Kahle Drive in Stateline, Nev.

Applicants must be 18 or older and reasonably physically fit. Applications can be obtained at http://www.douglassar.org and are due July 1. For more information, contact John at 775-720-6260.
