Want to run for office? Filing period for special districts ends Friday

Nominations for local special district elections to be held Nov. 6 must be declared by Friday. The available seats are for these districts: community college, school, fire, community services, public utility, airport, irrigation, and resort improvement.

Declaration of Candidacy papers may be obtained from the El Dorado County Elections Department, 2850 Fairlane Ct., Bldg. C, Placerville, CA.

Declaration of Candidacy papers for districts located in the Tahoe Area will also be available at the Recorder-Clerk’s Office located at 3368 Lake Tahoe Blvd., Suite 108, in South Lake Tahoe. The Tahoe office is open Monday through Friday, but closed from noon to 1 p.m.

If an incumbent fails to file by 5 p.m. Friday, the nomination period will be extended until 5 p.m. Aug. 15 for anyone other than the incumbent. Unless otherwise indicated, terms will last until Dec. 2, 2011, for full four-year terms and Dec. 2, 2009, for unexpired two-year terms.

To qualify for some board positions, a candidate must be a registered voter within the district. A candidate for McKinney Water District must be a landowner within the district. A candidate for the El Dorado Irrigation District must be a registered voter within the division of the district.

The following seats are up for election; incumbents are also listed:

Community College District

— Lake Tahoe Community College District

Two seats full-term held by: Kenneth Rollston and Frederick Wenck, Jr.

Unified School District

• Lake Tahoe Unified School District

Three seats full-term held by: Barbara Bannar, Hal Cole (appointed incumbent) and Sue Novasel

Fire District

• Meeks Bay Fire Protection District

Three seats full-term held by: Nicholas Kromydas, Edward Miller and Jane Warmack

One seat unexpired two-year term held by: Stephen Hyde (appointed incumbent)

Public Utility Districts

• Kirkwood Meadows Public Utility District (Alpine County is lead county)

Three seats full-term held by: Seat No. 1 Ð Laurence Lacey and Seat No. 2 Ð Frank Majors

• South Lake Tahoe Public Utility District

Two seats full-term held by: Seat No. 3Ð Mary Lou Mosbacher and Seat No. 4 Ð Duane Wallace

One seat unexpired two-year term held by: Kathleen Farrell (appointed incumbent)

Resort Improvement District

• Tahoe Paradise Resort Improvement District Ð Landowner District

Two seats full-term held by: Judy Clot (appointed incumbent) and Bill Cherry (appointed incumbent)

Community Service District

• Fallen Leaf Lake Community Services District

Three seats full-term held by: Larry Calof, Steve Malley and Karl Stauffer
